September 17th, 2026 Community Meeting notes

Notes collected by MJ
Updates
  • Waukesha Pride event – good outreach
  • Raised $125.28 (minus table fee $35)
  • Next year focus on awareness, promotional give away stickers/buttons (not sales)
Volunteering Sign Up
  • We need better volunteer sign up and tracking – more transparent so you can tell what is needed and when. -MJ
  • Want feedback to confirm signing up – Andrea
  • Brant will check on current system, what can be done. Google doc might work.
  • We should assign a point person to each event to coordinate volunteer needs, etc.
Organizational Needs
  • Discussed getting a Google business account, two addresses per month is $12, jumps to $30/mo for more addresses. MJ pointed out a $30/mo subscription would be a stretch for our budget, on top of Canva. We could still share two addresses.
  • We also need to plan on a process for sending mail/newsletters (zine).
  • Women Who Care of Waukesha do a grant – Stone Soup got it. Amethyst thinks she applied in the past, will look into.
Upcoming Events
  • Having a zine work day on Sunday, Sept. 20 2-4 at MJ’s. Amethyst will bring typewriters. Looking for short blurbs on books, other recommendations.
  • Not much update on Thanksgiving event. We’ve been reaching out to other organizations to partner (starting with Healing Hearts), and talking to United Methodist Church. Target date would be Saturday before Thanksgiving or an evening a couple weeks prior. Having a planning meeting Sept. 24 at 6 at the library, conference room 2. Please join! [Brianna told us Stone Soup does a Thanksgiving meal the Wednesday before, maybe we could help with that and focus on meal kits to give away?]
  • Next event: food share and camping equipment swap on Sept. 26
  • Andrea will reach out to camping supply stores (REI?) see if they would put up fliers/host a donation box.
  • Could we try and collect donations ahead of the specialized events, to be sure we have a supply for the actual event? So at the camping event, we can take donations for the emergency supplies event in October. We could collect at the events, or see if library would let us set up a donation box? (doubtful)
  • Ask Amethyst to start putting the next event requests on fliers/do a social media request as part of the promotion
  • Kids Impact Community
  • Brianna from Kids Impact Community came to meeting.
  • Organization encourages kids to volunteer, helps expose them to diverse communities. Includes young kids and older teens – they can set an age range on volunteer events to be sure appropriate. Regular activities include intergenerational play at senior living, work with Stone Soup to distribute hygiene kits the kids assemble, and sort clothes at the Hope Center.
  • They put up an Amazon wish list for items for the kits they assemble, etc – would be willing to include items we need (like for emergency kits).
  • Maybe could help sort clothes for future clothing swaps. They are doing a winter clothing event Oct. 30.
  • They could help with Thanksgiving meal kits, Amethyst is going to text with Brianna.
October Food Share/Emergency Supplies
  • Oct. 24, 12-2
  • Brant created a list for the emergency kit supplies needed:
    • Kitty litter
    • Blankets
    • Flashlights/batteries
    • Road flares
    • Small first aid kits
    • Ziplock bags (gallon and larger to put it in)
Future Events
  • November event will be winter clothing (just outerwear?)
  • October type-in – Amethyst not running but there might still be some sort of event, could need volunteers
  • Amethyst could start setting up a typewriter with a prompt at our events, get anonymous comments
Next community meeting Oct. 21 6-8 in library conference room 2 – please join!
