July 16th, 2026 Community Meeting Notes

July 16th Waukesha Mutual Aid Network Community Meeting Notes

Ongoing Activities:

  • Type In and food share July 25
  • Food share will be in Cutler Park, Ashley is coordinating but needs volunteers and tables. Please bring hygiene items (toothpaste, sunscreen, bug spray, etc.)
  • Type In is in main library room, please bring any sort of paper to donate.  Volunteers needed (Mike, Lucy and MJ going to volunteer). There will be a kid area, space to work on zine, writing prompts. A teacher from Tosa is going to lead a writing class.
  • Amethyst talked to Alyssa, the library’s community outreach coordinator. She has booked conference room 2 (at the back of the library) for the third Thursday of the month through the end of the year. The main room has too many conflicts to reserve the second Saturday, so we can either stay with the library and find times when we can book it, or look for another location to use for a consistent time, maybe United Methodist (hosts Healing Hearts). We need someone to contact. the church. We can’t do a table in the library parking lot (and technically need a permit for Cutler…)
  • Please remember to sign up to volunteer on the website.
  • MJ will work on outreach to other organizations to promote our events and/or donate a basket for the raffle at the benefit concert.
  • Lindsey’s office can be collection point for raffle items
  • Benefit concert August 15 at Maddie’s. There will be back-to-back musicians for four hours. Cover charge $10. Someone from one of the bands is making a flyer and there will be a facebook event. We’ll have a table to sell crafts and run a raffle with gift baskets. Please ask any local businesses you know for raffle donations. Ashley suggested it would be good to have a clear financial goal/target – possibly a community Thanksgiving/first year anniversary event.
  • Volunteers needed for door/cover, the craft table, raffle tickets.
  • MJ will work on setting up a WMAN Venmo before the concert.

New ideas:

  • Lindsey is working on a proposal for meeting with the mayor. She would like to put together an official dpcument, asked that people write sections on issues they are interested in. Max has done one on bike/pedestrian safety. Maybe Brant would want to do something on security/surveillance? Lindsey is going to ask in the gardening chat. Ashley is going to do teen spaces. Can use Google Drive for submissions.
  • We still want to set up a volunteer database (separate from volunteering for our events), like a phone tree. We’ve discussed using a google form for people to note what they are willing to do and also what people need help with. Ashley offered to do research into other groups that do this, 211 (Voces, DSA) – we should set up a team to work on this. Maybe set up second community meeting each month for different topic teams to work? (finance, marketing, etc)
  • Activist book club will get started Sunday morning 9-10 at Waukesha Cafe House. People can discuss books they have read/are interested in reading, or podcasts/articles, etc. (Not just books, for now not everyone having read the same book.)
  • The next food share will be Aug. 29, 11-1.
