Waukesha Mutual Aid Network Community Meeting

- Discussed what Mutual Aid is vs charity
- Mutual aid is rooted in indigenous/ collectivist cultures
- Mutual aid is based in solidarity, justice, equity and not charity
- Collective Decision making through consensus
- Work is based on the needs of the community
Initiatives:

- Monthly food shares – we discussed the frequency of the food shares and how we can
each help collect food for the drive in addition to donation on the day of. We will ask the
library if they would be willing to have a bin as a collection point. Many of us will post in
our own neighborhood facebook groups and serve as a collection point. For the
December food share, we will also collect winter gear to help people stay warm: 1. Hats,
2. Socks, 3. Scarves. 4. Hot hands …etc.

- Seed Swaps
- Garden Supply swaps
- Community Education – classes on gardening, etc.
- Food networks – 1. Cook a meal, 2. Potlucks
- Resistance Crafting

Upcoming Events at Waukesha Public Library:

- All Events will have a food component as we’ve determined as the number one priority. During
other swaps, we will continue to take food donations as we establish ourselves with the
community. - Dec. 18th, 2025, Community Food Share plus Winter Gear collection (see Initiatives).
- Jan. 17, 2025, Clothing Swap
- Feb (tbd), Seed Swap
- April, Garden Supplies swap
